TRANS-HIMALAYA - Discoveries and adventures in Tibet, Sven Hedin, 3 vols, Vols 1 & 2 published 1909, this imp 1910 and the rarer Vol3, published 1913. Original red cloth, gilt titles, some sun fading and minor insect damage to boards, VG+ inside including B&W and colour plates...and superb large fold-out maps of Hedin's remarkable journeys across southern Tibet, Kailas, etc...including the range he named the Trans-Himalaya. The Swedish explorer devoted his third journey, 1906-8, to the region lying between Shigatse and Leh and to the north of the Brahmaputra. He produced maps of the area, which had not been previously visited and revealed the existence of a large range of mountains lying parallel to the Himalaya on the Tibetan side. Hedin visited the sources of the major Asian rivers that rise near Mt Kailas and Lake Manasarowar. He never did reach Lhasa. Overall, despite minor binding damage,a fine set, very hard to find in the 3 vols - Ex libris John Nankervis $600
