Original green cloth with penguin on front cover, gilt titles, 200 illustrations, VG+, by far the brightest/finest copy we've ever had for sale, First edition, first printing. some foxing, past owner's signature to fep., Large fold-out colour map of sledging journeys up Victoria Land Coast to Granite harbour "The scarcest of the expedition's firsthand narratives" (Rosove). This is the first edition, Smith Elder issue, It includes many excellent sketches that were not included in Scott. The Australian geologist T. Griffith Taylor was a student of Prof. T. W. Edgeworth David, who accompanied Shackleton to the Antarctic in 1907-9. Grif Taylor joined Scott's Terra Nova expedition (1910-13). "He had devices and notebooks hanging out of every pocket and a passion for being well equipped. He was enraptured with geology."
