SOUTH, - The Story of Shackleton's last expedition 1914-1917 expedition, Sir Ernest Shackleton, William Heinemann, London, 1st edn 1919, 2nd imp December 1919.. a month after the true first in November 1919 - the advantage of which is that the pages of this copy offered for sale are not browned as was common with first print run. Of the four copies of this scarce book handled by Barking Mad Books...this is by far the finest with only minor rubbing to cover edges. Original blue cloth unfaded and silver titles and front board decoration of Endurance near mint. All Hurley plates complete, no inscriptions, binding firm, almost no foxing. South is an important polar book that came to define the end of an era of Antarctic exploration. At this price this fine copy will sell quickly. $2450
