THE MALAY ARCHIPELAGO - THE LAND OF THE ORANG-UTAN AND THE BIRD OF PARADISE, A.R Wallace, Macmillan, London, 1902, Early reprint 10th edn., of one of the finest scientific travel books ever written and Wallace's magnum opus, chronicling his eight-year sojourn through the Malay Archipelago. 513 page hardback, with tissue-guarded frontispiece, title-page vignette, 10 maps (2 colour fold-out), and 51 full- or partial-page engravings. Original publisher's green pebbled cloth ( v minor insect damage on front board only as seen in image), spine titles gilt, original black end papers, starting to crack. A sound copy ( minor wear to top and tail of spine, bumped corners), foxing to tissue guard on title page...but almost none throughout, one section starting but overall binding solid, a good copy of Wallace's most important work. Hard to find - A few minor blemishes, priced accordingly $NZ275
